The Venus of Willendorf is considered one of the first undisputed masterpieces of sculpture, and it has served as a resource of inspiration to a countless number of artists. She was made to be a talisman, a fertility figure, to help a future mother to give birth to healthy and numerous babies. To these prehistoric women, motherhood may have been a necessity to prevent their tribe from extinction, but also a gift from nature. 

For us it is not about necessities anymore. It is, ultimately, a choice. My mother made that choice, but she knew she would not need any talisman. She became a clock, ticking and rushing, visible to the bystanders and open to judgement.

This was part of my final MA project, where I explore the meaning of family and the relationships between female members. The three ink drawings represent, from left to right:
